Who is Nightwing?

Dick Grayson started his career as Batman’s loyal partner Robin. Eventually, Robin went on to become a prominent member and future leader of the group of young heroes known as the Teen Titans. Around this same time, he also grew out of his identity as Batman’s sidekick and developed his own superhero persona, Nightwing. Since then he has left the Teen Titans to fight crime on his own, faced numerous threats to his home of Blüdhaven, taken on the mantle of Batman during Bruce’s absence, and even served as a secret agent.

Quick History

Introduced shortly after Batman, Robin was added by the creative team of Bob Kane and Bill Finger to provide a character their young audience would be able to connect with. Robin served this role for many years and then ended up becoming a huge player on the Teen Titans team. Around this time, writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez were working on the Teen Titans comic and had the idea to begin actually aging Dick Greyson. They matured him and brought him into his own and the superhero Nightwing was created.

After Titans, Nightwing was given his own comic for a while until he eventually moved on to fill Batman’s shoes after his death during Final Crisis. Upon Bruce’s return and the launch of the New 52, Dick went back to being Nightwing again for another few years, once again headlining his own series. However his identity was exposed during the Forever Evil series and he was forced to go underground as a secret agent. These exploits would then be shown in the Grayson comic. Nowadays he is back to his Nightwing identity once more with his new Rebirth series.
