DC Universe is Giving Fans the Chance to Create Their Next New Series

DC Universe, the streaming service recently launched by DC Comics, is gearing up for a new type of series, one created by the ideas of an ordinary fan. DC is currently asking fans for their pitches. Several of these pitches will receive prizes and one will ultimately become a new, original streaming series.

Before fans get too excited about finally pitching their untold stories about Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, they should know that DC Universe is NOT asking for narratives. It appears that they are not looking for fans to redefine a character’s origins, à la Batman: Year One, or for fans to provide alternate takes on a character, à la Superman: Red Son. Instead, they are looking for “non-narrative ideas inspired by the world of DC.” This could range from reality shows, game shows, travel shows, documentaries, or any other non-narrative category fans can think of. Though this might be a disappointing limitation for some creators, there is still a ton of room for innovation within these confines.

The selection process for this contest and, thus, the creation of a new series will take place over a series of four rounds:

Round One will cull the submissions down to the 25 best of the bunch. These top 25 submissions will each earn $250 as a prize. These submissions will be accepted from October 3, 2019 to November 18, 2019.

Round Two will cull the submissions down to the top 10. These top 10 submissions will each earn $1,000 as a prize. Plus, the creators of these top 10 submissions will be invited to pitch their ideas to DCU executives and industry professionals in Los Angeles. Travel and lodging for the creators (up to 2 official team members) will be covered. The top 10 will be notified on December 13, 2019 and the pitch event takes place in January 2020.

Round Three will cull the submissions down to the top 3. These top 3 submissions will each earn $5,000 and an Associate Producer credit in the pilot. The winners, at this level, will also receive travel to the pilot shoot and will be able to help bring the show to life. The selected pilots will be produced between March and April of 2020.

Round Four will, finally, pick the best idea of the bunch. The top pilot will earn another $5,000 and an Associate Producer credit in the new DC Universe series. This is the chance for one lucky fan to have a direct impact on the DC Multiverse.

We also found a few other key details about the event, which may be helpful to creators. Ideas can be submitted as individuals or as two person teams. There are no limits to the number of ideas you can submit. Only people 18 years of age or older who are legal residents of the USA can enter.

To participate, fans can view further information, read the official rules, and submit their ideas at dcuunscripted.com.
