DC Versus Marvel Omnibus Editions Have Been Solicited

Decades ago, DC and Marvel would occasionally collaborate by creating comics that featured characters from both of those worlds. However, collaborations like this died down to the point where the stopped altogether. Fans couldn’t even find reprints of these comics because they stopped reprinting them too. This made it difficult to impossible to actually read the crossover comics.

Now, this is changing. We’re getting two brand new Omnibus Editions that are set to collect a large portion of the DC/Marvel comic crossovers. These new collections, DC Versus Marvel: The Amalgam Age Omnibus and the DC Versus Marvel Omnibus, will finally give new fans a chance to see some of their favorite characters go head to head.

For those unfamiliar with the Marvel/DC crossovers, these Omnibus Editions can be a little tricky to navigate. So, we’ll take a moment to explain the contents of both collections.

DC Versus Marvel: The Amalgam Age Omnibus collects the entire DC vs. Marvel event and the Amalgam Comics it spawned. The famous crossover event saw the DC and Marvel universes collide in a conflict that birthed a whole new universe. This universe, the Amalgam Universe, combined DC Comics characters and Marvel Comics characters into entirely new characters that shared elements of both origin points. So, Batman and Wolverine became Dark Claw, Iron Man and Green Lantern became Iron Lantern, Dr. Strange and Dr. Fate became Dr. Strangefate, and so on. The Amalgam Age Omnibus collects the main crossover event and one-shots from the Amalgam series.

The DC Versus Marvel Omnibus collects a series of mostly unrelated comic crossovers. This starts with Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man, the first major crossover between the Marvel and DC Universes. It then goes on to include a number of other random crossovers, like the time Galactus tried to feed on Darkseid or the time Batman was forced to team-up with Daredevil. Most of these crossovers are non-canon and don’t make efforts to actually combine the universes but, instead, just have the characters encounter one another as if they’ve always been in the same universe.
