New “Penguin Classics Marvel Collections” examine Black Panther, Captain America, and Spider-Man

A new line of collections from Penguin Classics is set to look at several of Marvel’s most prominent heroes. The “Penguin Classic Marvel Collection” line is set to present “the origin stories, seminal tales, and characters of the Marvel Universe to explore Marvel’s transformative and timeless influence on an entire genre of fantasy.” Each book collects several comics and scholarly information that examines the enduring significance of the hero. Three of these new collections are currently on the way and will look at Black Panther, Captain America, and Spider-Man.

Black Panther is currently set for release on June 14, 2022. The collection is set to gather “the Black Panther’s 1966 origin tale and the entirety of the critically acclaimed “Panther’s Rage” storyline from his 1970s solo series.” It will also contain a foreword by Nnedi Okorafor, a scholarly introduction and apparatus by Qiana J. Whitted, and a general series introduction by Ben Saunders.

Captain America is currently set for release on June 14, 2022. The collection is set to gather “Captain America’s very first appearances from 1941 alongside key examples of his first solo stories of the 1960s, in which Steve Rogers, the newly resurrected hero of World War II, searches to find his place in a new and unfamiliar world.” It will also contain a foreword by Gene Luen Yang and scholarly introductions and apparatus by Ben Saunders.

The Amazing Spider-Man is currently set for release on June 14, 2022. The collection is set to gather “twelve key stories from the first two years of Spider-Man’s publication history (from 1962 to 1964).” It will also contain a foreword by Jason Reynolds and scholarly introductions and apparatus by Ben Saunders.

All three of these collections are set to release in hardcover and paperback formats. The hardcover format will feature gold foil stamping, gold top stain edges, special endpapers with artwork spotlighting series villains, and full-color art throughout.
