News: Issue #13 will be the final issue of “Sideways”

It appears as if the end has come for another title in the “New Age of Heroes” line of comics. DC’s February 2019 Solicitations list Sideways #13 as the last issue of this relatively new series. The final issue is set to wrap up most of the mysteries in the life of Derek James and should deliver some resolution on his current story arc.

Sideways originally launched in February of 2018, where readers had their first opportunity to meet DC Comic’s homage to Spider-Man. This new character was a part of the “New Age of Heroes,” a publishing effort designed to detail some of the fallout from the Dark Nights: Metal (Review) event. Unfortunately, the disappointing cancellation of Sideways is not a unique case, as all but three of the “New Age of Heroes” comics are set to conclude soon. The publishing effort’s only survivors are currently Damage, The Silencer, and The Terrifics.

On a more hopeful note, the solicitation for Sideways #13 concludes by stating this is the end of this story “for now.” In the world of comics, this sometimes means that there is a possibility the character will move on to become a secondary character in another series or join an already existing team. In the meantime, fans can continue to enjoy Sideways through the comic’s first trade paperback: Sideways Vol. 1: Steppin’ Out.
