News: New Young Justice clip has Barbara Gordon as Oracle

In a recent livestream, DC Entertainment announced a number of new details about their upcoming digital subscription service, DC Universe. The livestream told us more about the new live-action Titans series, which is coming to DC Universe on October 12; it contained information about the “DC Daily” show, which will showcase DC news every weekday; and announced a September 15th release date for the DC Universe service.
The livestream also told us a bit more about Young Justice: Outsiders, the third season in the Young Justice series. A new trailer for the show features Dick Grayson taking on villains and uncovering mysteries. However, it also features him speaking to Barbara Gordon and referring to her as Oracle.

In the comic books, Oracle is the identity Barbara Gordon takes on after she is crippled by the Joker in Batman: The Killing Joke. When this happens, she is wheelchair bound and switches her crimefighting role to one tactical support from behind a computer, rather than physical support from behind a mask. As Oracle, the help she provides is unparalleled and she is instrumental in the fight against crime in Gotham City.

The new trailer does not tell us anything about how Barbara Gordon took on her new identity in the Young Justice Universe, as she is never actually shown on screen. It is entirely possible that this version of Babs was never wheelchair bound and that she simply prefers providing tactical support. It is even possible that this version is still fighting as Batgirl but simply prefers to go by Oracle when operating a mission. However, if the show decides to follow the comics, Barbara Gordon will be in for some trying times.

Young Justice: Outsiders will be premiering sometime in 2019. In the meantime, Season One and Season Two of Young Justice will be available through DC Universe when it launches on September 15th.
