Overview

Superman: Reborn (Review) is a crossover storyline that takes place across two issues of Action Comics and two issues of Superman. Along with these, two additional issues of Action Comics provide some important context for the crossover, though these issues are not completely essential.

Before Reading

About half of this crossover focuses on solving the mysterious appearance of a new Clark Kent. This Clark Kent started making appearances in Action Comics: Vol. 1: Path of Doom (Review). He then became a central mystery in both Action Comics Vol. 2: Welcome to the Planet (Review) and Action Comics Vol. 3: Men of Steel (Review). The other half of this crossover focuses on solving the mystery behind the pre-Flashpoint Superman's existence in the post-Flashpoint world. The origins behind this mystery essentially go hand in hand with the origins behind the pre-Flashpoint Superman, which are shown in Convergence and Superman: Lois and Clark (Review). More recently, this mystery was teased in Superman Annual #1, which is collected in Superman Vol. 3: Multiplicity (Review), and in DC Universe: Rebirth (Review).

After Reading

This event essentially changes the status quo for Superman by merging elements of his history. These changes are briefly explained in Action Comics Vol. 4: The New World. Superman's story continues in both Action Comics Vol. 4: The New World and Superman Vol. 4: Black Dawn. In addition, there are a number of other comic series where the aftermath of Superman: Reborn (Review) is dealt with. This includes Supergirl #8, collected in Supergirl Vol. 2: Escape from the Phantom Zone; Superwoman #8-9, collected in Superwoman Vol. 2: Rediscovery (Review); and Trinity #8, collected in Trinity Vol. 2: Dead Space (Review).
