Overview

The New 52: Futures End (Review) is a standalone storyline that is set in an alternate future for the DC Universe. This future takes place five years after most of the stories in the New 52 era of DC Comics. The majority of the event is told through a single comic series, though there are also a number of tie-in chapters which help develop the world in which this comic is set.

Before Reading

This event stands on its own and does not require prior reading to understand. It somewhat continues plot elements from the Earth 2: World's End (Review) series but this knowledge is not necessary to understand the events of Futures End.

After Reading

After the conclusion of The New 52: Futures End (Review), this event and the Earth 2: World's End (Review) series continue on in the Convergence event.

Notes

Direct Connection Tie-In

These tie-in issues explain information that is directly related to what is going on in the Main Event. They fill in background information, detail past events, and explain references that are made in the Main Event. One can easily understand what is happening in the Main Event without these issues but reading them gives a more complete picture of exactly what is going on.

Limited Connection Tie-In

These tie-in issues take place in the world of Futures End and make one or two references to the Main Event. They have almost nothing to do with the Main Event besides these quick references. However, this allows us to place them in a more specific place in our Reading Order, thus putting them where they are here.

Little/No Connection Tie-In

These tie-in issues are set in the world of Futures End but have little to no connection with the main event. They simply take place at random times in this alternate future. We suggest reading these issues after Futures End #30, to get a grasp for the world of Futures End For this reason, these issues can easily be skipped by fans only interested in the main Futures End storyline.

This reading order splits this set of tie-in issues into two sections. The first is individual issues that can be read in any order at any time. The second is pairs of issues that clearly take place in a certain order (these sets of pairs are separated by a bold line). The Aquaman issue is part one of a story ending with Aquaman and the Others and the Wonder Woman issue is part one of a story ending with Superman/Wonder Woman. The rest of the issue pairings are not directly connected but, due to characters appearing or disappearing, it is clear that the second issue takes place after the first. null

  1. These issues take place sometime during the events of Futures End after issue #1. The Justice League: Futures End #1 issue should be read after the Justice League United: Futures End #1 issue as it continues a two-part story.
  2. This issue takes place sometime after Futures End #5 and sometime before Futures End #28. However, when exactly it takes place is rather unclear.
  3. Each of these issues takes place before the main issue to the left. However, we suggest reading these issues after the main issue on the left to avoid spoiling some major secrets about the overall story.
  4. These issues take place soon after the Main Event issue to their left.
  5. This issue is mostly independent from the rest of the Futures End event. However, it involves Brainiac in a way that teases the Convergence event, which is the event immediately following Futures End. Plus, this particular story is directly continued in the tie-in issues for the Convergence event. Therefore, we have placed it at the very end of the Futures End Reading Order.
