Sideways Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring Sideways (Derek James) throughout DC Comics. It may not encompass every one of his appearances but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

Universe

Sideways was introduced in this era and has no prior appearances to it. He first appears in his solo series, Sideways. This comic was part of DC’s “New Age of Heroes” imprint, a collection of comics stemming from the events of Dark Nights: Metal (Reading Order).

Derek’s main role in this era is in his solo series. This comic explains his background, origin story, and current situation. It also explains how his situation is currently changing. Outside of this, his appearances are very small and amount to a cameo in Heroes in Crisis and a brief association with Young Justice.

Notes
  1. Derek only makes an extremely brief appearance in Heroes in Crisis (Reading Order). However, this is a comic that focuses on the trauma that heroes go through and, as a part of this, it shows that, even after Sideways ended, Derek is still processing a major source of trauma from that series.
  2. These issues of Young Justice depict the first major team-up between Sideways and a standard DC superhero team. However, Sideways ends up playing a pretty small role in these issues.
