Overview

Annihilation is a large comic book event that brings in many elements from the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. The story here centers around the galaxy looking for a way to stop the cataclysmic threat presented by the Annihilation Wave.

The main story from this event is told through a single comic series with one prologue issue. However, a number of tie-in miniseries help expand the story significantly and show what is happening throughout the universe during this event. Most of these tie-ins detail information that comes into play during the main event and, thus, are extremely helpful to read in tandem with the main event.

Before Reading

Annihilation stands mostly independent from other Marvel comic events. It brings together many different characters but their recent adventures are, for the most part, not heavily referenced throughout this event. The only exception is Thanos, who's journey in his 2003 solo series, collected in Thanos: Redemption, is referenced a couple of times throughout this event.

After Reading

The cosmic story started in Annihilation is directly continued in the Annihilation: Conquest event. This newer event is essentially a sequel to Annihilation.

In addition, the conclusion of Annihilation directly leads to the creation of the Nova Vol. 4 series. Specifically, the first three issues of this series, collected in either Nova Vol. 1: Annihilation - Conquest or Nova by Abnett & Lanning: The Complete Collection Vol. 1, are seen as an epilogue to Annihilation.
