Overview

Avengers: Kree/Skrull War tells the story of how a conflict between two alien races threatened to destroy the Earth itself. This destruction was only averted by the Avengers, with help from a few of Earth's other heroes.  

The event here is extremely straightforward and uncomplicated. It simply takes place over the course of nine linear issues of the Avengers series without any complication.

Before Reading

The major players in the Kree/Skrull War are the Avengers and Captain Marvel. The Avenger's most recent adventures take place across Marvel Masterworks: Avengers Vol. 9 (Review), which mostly explains the team's current lineup. Captain Marvel's most recent adventures take place across Marvel Masterworks: Captain Marvel Vol. 2 (Review), which explains the hero's current connection to Rick Jones. These stories provide the bulk of the setup for this event.

In addition, recent actions from the Kree and Skrull Empires play a developing this event's narrative. A conflict surrounding Ronan the Accuser, in Marvel Masterworks: Captain Marvel Vol. 2 (Review), becomes relevant once the war begins. Meanwhile, the actions of a few Skrulls in Fantastic Four #2, collected in Marvel Masterworks: Fantastic Four Vol. 1 (Review), also become relevant.

After Reading

The immediate aftermath of the events taking place in the Kree/Skrull War is almost exclusively felt in the Avengers and Captain Marvel comic series. Avengers comics immediately continue on with issue #98, collected in Marvel Masterworks: Avengers Vol. 10 (Review). A short time later, the previously canceled Captain Marvel series began again with issue #22, collected in Marvel Masterworks: Captain Marvel Vol. 3 (Review).
