Fall 2020 DC Comics Collection Reading Suggestions

Colder weather is on the horizon and with it comes one more reason to stay indoors with a good book. To assist with this, we’re listing five DC Comics reading suggestions for Fall of 2020. The following comics are presented in no particular order and simply seek to present a variety of reading options for fans this fall.

Mister Miracle: The Deluxe Edition

Deep, emotionally-rich storytelling and a captivating sense of purpose make Mister Miracle (Review) one of the best DC books in recent history. Now, a deluxe edition is set to give readers a chance to see this volume’s absolutely gorgeous artwork in an even better light. This makes a collection like this appealing to new readers and fans who have already experienced the series.

The Mister Miracle series has already been released as a paperback collection. However, this deluxe edition offers a larger, hardcover version of the book. It releases in early October.

The Sandman: The Deluxe Edition Book One or Sandman Box Set

There’s quite possibly never been a better time to jump into Neil Gaiman’s fantastic Sandman series. It is an absolutely enchanting and unique comic book that takes readers on a physical and metaphysical journey through life, death, and everything in between. It is also the subject of a new audiobook recording and an upcoming Netflix series.

The Deluxe Edition gives readers a chance to see this comic’s artwork in an oversized format and starts a new, hardcover format. On the other side, the Sandman Box Set may appeal to readers looking to binge the series all at once, regardless of the format. The Deluxe Edition releases this November (with a second volume coming next March) while the Box Set came out in early October.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight The Deluxe Edition

Looking for something a bit thrilling this Halloween? Gotham by Gaslight pits the Dark Knight against the world’s most notorious serial killer, Jack the Ripper. It does this through a Victorian era setting and dark visuals, both of which play up the chills and thrills found in this story.

This new Deluxe Edition lets readers view the comic’s artwork in a premium format and also collects a few of the times the Gotham by Gaslight universe has appeared in other DC books. It was released in early October.

Lois Lane: Enemy of the People and/or Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen: Who Killed Jimmy Olsen?

For decades, Lois Lane and “Superman’s Pal” Jimmy Olsen were major fixtures of the DC comic landscape and even in general pop culture. However, in recent years the two, particularly Jimmy, have had a far less pronounced profile. That all changed last year, when both were given their own miniseries. Lois’ comic is a “harrowing journey” following a prolific journalist uncovering a deadly secret, written by superstar writer Greg Rucka. Jimmy’s comic is a “weird and wild trip” more focused on humor, written by superstar writer Matt Fraction. Both have been well received by comic fans and both deserve their respective places in anyone’s collection.

Lois Lane: Enemy of the People releases in late November and Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen: Who Killed Jimmy Olsen? comes out in late October.

Doomsday Clock: The Complete Collection

Doomsday Clock is the culmination of DC’s entire Rebirth publishing effort and is a spiritual successor to Watchmen. The comic brings together the traditional DC Universe with that of Alan Moore’s Watchmen universe, in a way that has serious impacts on both.

Though the Doomsday Clock series has already been collected in two separate volumes, this is the first time a single collection will tell the entire story. This volume releases in mid-October.
