“New 52: The 10th Anniversary” and “Bizarro” Deluxe Editions are On the Way

Two interesting new deluxe editions are on the way from DC Comics. While most of DC’s recently solicited deluxe editions collect reprints of classics, like the current line of Sandman Deluxe Editions, or highly anticipated new material, like the upcoming Batman by John Ridley Deluxe Edition, the latest solicitations are a bit different. The first reprints the opening issue of several different comics from the New 52 era and the second reprints a Bizarro graphic novel from back in 2002.

The New 52: The 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition is set to collect All Star Western #1, Animal Man #1, Aquaman #1, Justice League Dark #1, Demon Knights #1, Voodoo #1, Justice League #1, Wonder Woman #1, Action Comics #1, Batman #1, and The Flash #1. Each of these comics were part of DC’s “First Wave” of titles from the New 52 era. They are notable because they are easily some of the best titles from that relaunch. Most people are familiar with Scott Snyder’s Batman (Reading Order) or Geoff John’s Justice League (which is about to receive an omnibus edition), but titles like Demon Knights (Reading Order) and Animal Man (Reading Order) were less publicly appreciated. So, this new deluxe edition may give fans a chance to view some of the hidden gems from the start of the New 52.

Bizarro Comics Deluxe Edition is set to collect Bizarro Comics HC #1 and tales told in its sequel, Bizarro World. These original graphic novels contain an anthology of humorous stories that parody characters and concepts from around the time when they were released. I haven’t heard much buzz about this comic, so I was surprised to see it receive a deluxe edition; however, I’m hopeful that, if it is successful, it will encourage DC to embrace republishing some of their more unique titles from the past.
