Animal Man Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring Animal Man (Buddy Baker) throughout DC Comics. It does not encompass every one of his appearances but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

Animal Man issues are from the Vol. 2 series
Swamp Thing issues are from the Vol. 5 series

Notes

• At the beginning of the New 52, the DC Universe was reset. Animal Man was reintroduced through his own solo series, where the majority of his adventures unfolded. This solo series is mostly straightforward but does contain a major crossover with the Swamp Thing series, which resulted in the Rotworld event. When the Animal Man series ended, Buddy Baker went as one of the founding members of the Justice League United, where his superhero career continued.
• This Swamp Thing issue features a brief appearance from Animal Man. It does not continue or enhance Animal Man's personal journey but does feature him in a unique way.
• Animal Man serves as a member of the Justice League United (Reading Order) throughout its existence. However, his appearances on this team only advance the team's story, not his own.
• Animal Man does not appear in issues #14-15 of this story arc. However, we included these issues as they continue the story from issue #13.
