Batman: The Long Halloween Reading Order

The idea for the Batman: The Long Halloween series was thought up while writer Jeff Lobe and artist Tim Sale were working on the comics that would later be collected in Batman: Haunted Knight (Continuity). This series is set early on in Batman’s career and, thus, builds upon the history that was introduced in Batman: Year One. Readers do not need to read these two earlier volumes in order to understand this series, however, doing so helps set the tone.

The storyline here starts with Batman: The Long Halloween (Continuity). This storyline then directly continues in Batman: Dark Victory (Continuity). Together, these two volumes tell a complete story.

In addition to these two volumes, Catwoman: When in Rome expands on the narrative. It explains what Catwoman was doing during the events of Dark Victory and, thus, answers some questions about her appearance at the end of that comic.

1. Catwoman: When in Rome (Continuity) takes place sometime between issues #5 and #12 of Batman: Dark Victory (Continuity). However, it was published after the publication of Dark Victory. This means that fans can read these issues in either place. We suggest reading them in publication order but readers looking for a strict timeline order can read When in Rome between these specific issues.
