Orphan (Cassandra Cain) Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring Orphan (Cassandra Cain) throughout DC Comics. It may not encompass every one of her appearances but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

With the beginning of the New 52, the DC Universe’s continuity was reset. Cassandra Cain’s past was erased and all of her past appearances are effectively removed from this new universe’s history.

About halfway through the New 52 era, Cassandra Cain is reintroduced through the Batman & Robin Eternal series. This comic establishes a new history for her and details her initial interactions with the Bat-family. Over the course of this comic, Cassandra’s character is redefined for the foreseeable future.

Rebirth

The transition from the New 52 to the Rebirth era includes little to no continuity changes for Cassandra Cain. Instead, the Rebirth era immediately begins building on the history established and the connections created throughout Cassandra's appearances in the Batman & Robin Eternal series.

In the Rebirth era, Orphan's main role plays out in the Detective Comics series. There she takes on a starring role alongside the other members of the newly formed Gotham Knights team-up. Though Cassandra is featured as a key player in the majority of this comic, the "League of Shadows" storyline specifically places heavy focus on developing her character.

Notes
  1. Cassandra's role in these issues is minimal as the conclusion of the arc heavily focuses on Red Robin (Reading Order).
  2. Cassandra makes several appearances in the Night of the Monster Men (Reading Order) crossover event. However, the majority of these appearances are extremely small and, thus, not entirely essential to this reading order.
