Overview

Event Leviathan (Review) has DC's superhero community reacting to the rise of Leviathan and their mysterious plan for the world. It brings multiple heroes in on an investigation that must be solved before disaster strikes.
The narrative in Event Leviathan plays out in the six main event issues, Superman: Leviathan Rising Special #1, and the "Leviathan" story from DC's Year of the Villain Special #1. These issues detail the entirety of the main storyline running through this event.

Tie-Ins

The tie-ins to Event Leviathan (Review) are only loosely related to the main event. These tie-ins all feature appearances from the event's main villain but are mostly focused on what is currently happening in that series, rather than what is happening in the event.

  1. The Action Comics issues are the most directly related to what is taking place within Event Leviathan. These issues continue plot threads from previous Action Comics issues, most of which were directly responsible for setting up the entire event in the first place. Action Comics #1013 is the most significant of these tie-ins, as it has Superman directly confronting Leviathan forces. However, Action Comics #1014 is the least significant of these tie-ins, as it only features a few mentions of Leviathan.
  2. These comics only barely relate to what is happening in Event Leviathan. They essentially feature Leviathan making a cameo in each comic, which starts a plot point in each series. The Supergirl story arc doesn't even receive a worthwhile conclusion, as the series is interrupted by a tie-in to the Year of the Villain event.

Before Reading

Event Leviathan (Review) primarily extends from plotlines in the Action Comics series. Some minor story elements begin developing as soon as Brian Michael Bendis starting writing the series, with Action Comics #1000, collected in The Man of Steel (Review). However, Action Comics Vol. 2: Leviathan Rising (Review) is where the majority of the mystery behind Leviathan is initially developed. The events of Leviathan Rising are also heavily referenced throughout Event Leviathan.

In addition, the recent history of the Leviathan organization is detailed across the Silencer (Reading Order) series. Specifically, the final story arc, collected in Silencer Vol. 3: Up in Smoke (Review), begins mentioning severe turmoil and structural changes within the group. These are not necessary in understanding what takes place in Event Leviathan but may be intriguing for those interested in Talia or Silencer's personal stories.

After Reading

The aftermath of Event Leviathan (Review) is most immediately felt across Action Comics Vol. 4: Metropolis Burning. This comic features the return of characters from Event Leviathan and the continuation of plans made during that event.

In addition, Lois Lane's reaction to something that happened in the event is detailed in Lois Lane #6, collected in Lois Lane: Enemy of the People.
