Overview

Superman: The Oz Effect (Review) is a storyline from the Action Comics series. This storyline finally reveals some mysteries that have been plaguing Superman since the conclusion of the New 52 era and the start of the Rebirth era. Specifically, it reveals the truth behind Mr. Oz and his goals.

This storyline takes place within the Action Comics series and does not cross over with any other comics. For this reason, it is extremely straightforward. Understanding it simply requires reading Action Comics #987-991 in order.

Before Reading

Superman: The Oz Effect (Review) is directly related to what is taking place in the Action Comics series. The Rebirth Action Comics series sees Mr. Oz intervene at numerous points. Each of these interventions is mostly unexplained and builds anticipation for the truth about Mr. Oz to be revealed. Because of this, reading the Rebirth Action Comics series before The Oz Effect makes for a great experience. For more about this series, see the Rebirth section of ComicBookWire's "Action Comics Reading Order".

Readers can also look into Mr. Oz's other appearances. Most of these appearances are just cryptic cameos. However, dedicated readers may enjoy seeing these appearances in order to continue building the mystery surrounding Oz. For more information about all of Mr. Oz's appearances, see ComicBookWire's "Mr. Oz Reading Order".

After Reading

The fallout from Superman: The Oz Effect (Review) is felt immediately after the arc concludes. The next Action Comics storyline has Superman (Reading Order) reacting to the new information about Mr. Oz. This takes place in the Action Comics: Booster Shot story arc.

The fallout also goes on to have a major impact on the first half of Brian Michael Bendis' run on Superman. This starts with The Man of Steel, a story that heavily references the secrets revealed in The Oz Effect.
