Frankenstein Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring Frankenstein throughout DC Comics. It does not encompass every one of his appearances, but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

At the beginning of the New 52, the DC Universe was reset. Frankenstein was reintroduced as an agent of S.H.A.D.E. through the Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E. series. When this series was cancelled, his adventures were primarily catalogued in the Justice League Dark (Reading Order) series, though he also made a few appearances in other comics.

Justice League Dark issues are from the Vol. 1 series

Notes
  1. This issue is a flashback detailing more information about Frankenstein's past so it could be read at any point in his adventures. We have placed it around this point because it pairs well with the issue #0 of Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E. #5, which is also a flashback.
  2. This issue has Frankenstein in a somewhat minor role. However, it helps establish Frankenstein's relationship with Batman, something that is brought up in later issues of this series.
  3. Frankenstein is in every main issue of the Trinity War (Reading Order) crossover event. He also appears as a background character in the Pandora #3 tie-in issue.
  4. Frankenstein has an inactive role for the vast majority of this crossover event. The only reason Forever Evil: Blight (Reading Order) is included in this Reading Order is because it explains how Frankenstein survived Trinity War (Reading Order) and made his way to Justice League Dark #30. If fans choose to read this crossover, they can find Frankenstein's appearances in Constantine #12 and Justice League Dark #27-29.
  5. Frankenstein has a supporting role in these issues. It explains what happened to him immediately after his time in Justice League Dark #30.
