Madame Xanadu Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring Madame Xanadu (Nimue Inwudu) throughout DC Comics. It does not encompass every one of her appearances but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

With the beginning of the New 52, the DC Universe’s continuity was reset. Madame Xanadu’s history was wiped clean and all of her prior appearances were removed from the current continuity.

She was reintroduced through both the Demon Knights and the Justice League Dark comic series. The Demon Knights series took place in the past and the Justice League Dark series took place in the present.

Xanadu’s role in this era is primarily confined to one of these two series. However, she also goes on to play a rather large role in the Trinity War (Reading Order) event and make a few cameo appearances in other comics.

Notes
  1. Technically, the first three volumes of Demon Knights and Justice League Dark were released at the same time. This means that readers can choose to read these three volumes in any order they desire. However, the events of Demon Knights take place hundreds of years before the events of Justice League Dark so we have structured the reading order to reflect this progression of time.
  2. Madame Xanadu makes an appearance in all of the main issues of the Trinity War (Reading Order) event except for the Justice League of America issues.
  3. Madame Xanadu only makes a small appearance in this issue. However, it shows what she is doing during the chaos of the Forever Evil event in the aftermath of the Trinity War (Reading Order) event.
  4. Madame Xanadu only has a small role in these issues. However, they show that she is still practicing magic in the aftermath of Forever Evil and before joining back up with the Justice League Dark (Reading Order).

Rebirth

Though Xanadu only has a few appearances in Rebirth thus far, it appears as if this era carries over her history from the New 52 era. In Rebirth, The Demon: Hell is Earth (Review) miniseries almost directly continues plot points from Xanadu's role in the Demon Knights series.
