Sinestro Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring Sinestro (Thaal Sinestro) throughout DC Comics. It may not encompass every one of his appearances but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

With the start of the New 52, the DC Universe was reset. However, Sinestro and most characters related to the Green Lantern series were less affected by this reset than other characters. It appears as if most of Sinestro’s solo history was preserved, specifically his origin story and his connection to Hal Jordan.

Sinestro started this era with a starring role in the Green Lantern series. His role in this series continued up to the Wrath of the First Lantern (Reading Order) crossover event. At this point, he went on to play a part in the Forever Evil (Reading Order) event before staring in his own solo series. This solo series dealt directly with Sinestro’s life and brought his adventures to the Rebirth era.

Lobo issues are from the Vol. 3 series.

Notes
  1. This issue takes place in an alternate future. It does not have an impact on the current storyline but may be of interest to readers looking for more Sinestro stories.
  2. Sinestro only appears as a supporting character in these issues. However, it helps explain a few things later on in the series.

Rebirth

For Sinestro, the Rebirth era directly continues his story from the New 52 era. Specifically, his actions across the Sinestro series become immediately relevant and the change in his status quo from that series is seen as soon as Rebirth begins.

Sinestro's most prominent role in this era comes from his appearances in the Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps series. This comic shows what happens to Sinestro and his Yellow Lanterns at this point in time. Besides this series, Sinestro only makes small appearances in other comics.

Superman issues are from the Vol. 4 series.
DC Nation issues are from the Vol. 2 series.

Notes
  1. Sinestro only makes a very brief appearance in this comic. However, it helps show what he is doing after his more major appearances in this series.
  2. Sinestro only has a relatively small role in the No Justice (Reading Order) event. However, this event works as a prelude to Sinestro's deeper association with Lex Luthor, a prominent feature of the next era.
