Suicide Squad Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring the Suicide Squad throughout DC Comics. It does not encompass every one of their appearances, but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

At the beginning of the New 52, the DC Universe was reset. In this new continuity, the Suicide Squad was formed at the beginning of the Suicide Squad series. This team underwent numerous lineup changes throughout this era but typically would consist of Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, and a few other villains. This team also went on to make appearances in a number of other DC Comics series. Their adventures persist throughout this era and continue on in the Rebirth era.

Notes
  1. Each of these sets of issues has the Suicide Squad make an appearance in another comics series, typically as temporary villains. They do not advance the Suicide Squad's personal story but usually feature some fun battles between the Squad and someone else. They can easily be skipped if the reader does not want to read these random missions.
  2. These Birds of Prey (Reading Order) issues continue a few minor plot points involving Kurt Lance. They technically occur sometime before Suicide Squad #29 but it is not exactly clear when.
  3. These issues continue a few minor plot point from Deathstroke's brief appearance on the Suicide Squad.
  4. The Suicide Squad's appearance in these issues of Superman/Wonder Woman (Reading Order) does not exactly match with the continuity of the Suicide Squad's team lineup. This is because Parasite joins the team during Reverse Flash's last mission, yet both appear on a mission in Superman/Wonder Woman Vol. 4: Dark Truth (Review). Despite not making much sense in terms of continuity, it can be assumed that this appearance happened around this general time period.
  5. The Suicide Squad have a sizable role in these stories but are not the main characters.
