Swamp Thing by Scott Snyder Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of Scott Snyder’s time writing Swamp Thing (Alec Holland) for DC Comics. It attempts to find the best way to showcase the narrative that stretches through this author’s time with the character. It may not encompass every one of the character’s appearances but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. New 52

At the beginning of the New 52, the DC Universe was reset. In this new continuity, Alec Holland’s return to life, from the Brightest Day event, is preserved but the alterations to Swamp Thing’s powers are not. In addition, Alec Holland’s fusion with the previous Swamp Thing is not preserved, as this era makes it clear these are two completely separate characters.

Scott Snyder wrote the opening few Swamp Thing story arcs in this era. All of these story arcs work to develop a larger narrative about the rise of the Rot and the threat it poses to the world. This narrative, and Scott Snyder’s work on the character, climaxes and concludes in the Rotworld (Reading Order) event, a crossover with the Animal Man (Reading Order) series.
