References in Aquaman Vol. 2: Amnesty

  • Near the beginning of this book, many vague references are made to Aquaman’s past. These mostly cover the story of his life that is presented across most of the New 52 and Rebirth eras. These refer to a plot to put him on the throne, a fight against Ocean Master, and a team-up with the Justice League to fight ocean monsters, all of which occur in Throne of Atlantis (Reading Order). Other scenes refer to the story of his mother, which is mostly detailed across Aquaman: Maelstrom; Mera’s coronation, from Aquaman/Suicide Squad: Sink Atlantis (Reading Order); and a moment where he wore magical armor alongside the Justice League, which happened at the end of Dark Nights: Metal (Reading Order).
  • At one point, Lex Luthor’s “apparent suicide” is mentioned. This is depicted in the Year of the Villain special.
  • The gifts presented to Black Manta in this volume are part of the Year of the Villain event and tie-in to larger events taking place in Scott Snyder’s run on the Justice League (Reading Order).
