Earth 2 (New 52 Version) Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring the world of Earth 2 (New 52 Version) throughout DC Comics. It does not encompass every appearance of this reality, but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

With the beginning of the New 52, the DC Universe’s continuity was reset. At this point in time, a brand new world was introduced to this new multiverse. This world was Earth 2 and it contained a cast of new characters inspired by the characters from DC’s Golden Age.

The stories from this world were mostly told through the Earth 2 series. The only major exception is the Worlds’ Finest series, which went on to tell the stories of Power Girl (Reading Order) and Huntress (Reading Order), two refugees from the Earth 2 reality who were stranded on Prime Earth. Later on, these series would converge with the Earth 2: World’s End weekly series. This weekly series cumulated with the Convergence (Reading Order) event and then went on to form the Earth 2: Society series.

Notes
  1. These issues from Batman/Superman (Reading Order) explain a crossover between the Supermen and Batmen of Prime Earth and Earth 2. This crossover does not have a large impact on either world but it does contain some great moments between these characters. As an additional note, these issues were published after the Earth 2 series began but the events within these issues take place in a flashback to a time before the Earth 2 series began.
  2. The Worlds' Finest series does not take place on Earth 2 but does involve the stories of two refugees from Earth 2, who are now stranded on Prime Earth. Most of these stories can be read at any point in time alongside the Earth 2 series, we simply placed them in the order presented above to spread out the stories a bit. The only exceptions to this rule are listed in the next note.
  3. Worlds' Finest #11-12 should be read before Earth 2 #15.1 to avoid spoiling a twist that takes place within them. The events of Worlds' Finest Vol. 4: First Contact (Review) clearly take place sometime in between Earth 2 #20 and Earth 2 #21.
  4. Though this issue is a part of the Earth 2 series and it involves characters from Earth 2, it is far more closely related to the events taking place in the Worlds' Finest series. For this reason, we have placed it in the "Extra" column with those issues.
  5. This issue is essentially a sequel to the previous Batman/Superman story arc from this same reading order. It relates to the overall story of Earth 2 in the same way that the previous arc did.
  6. The events of these Constantine issues take place on Earth 2 during the Earth 2: World's End event. However, they mostly just focus on what is taking place in the background during this event and, thus, can be skipped if necessary.
  7. Though these issues are a part of the Earth 2 series, they end up only being supplementary to the events going on in the main Earth 2 narrative. Instead, they explain what is going on in the background of Earth 2: World's End and occasionally elaborate on the origins of characters introduced there.
  8. Though narration from these issues takes place during the events of Earth 2: World's End, these issues are almost entirely focused on detailing stories from before the Earth 2 series began. Theoretically, they can be read at any point after starting World's End. We simply placed them in the break between World's End Vol. 1 (Review) and Vol. 2 (Review) for convenience.
  9. Futures End (Review) (Reading Order) technically takes place in an alternate future. However, it heavily incorporates elements of Earth 2 in a way that will likely make it worthwhile for fans of this universe.

Rebirth

The reality of Earth 2 has yet to appear in the Rebirth era of DC Comics.
