New 52

With the start of the New 52, the DC Universe was reset. However, Guy Gardner and most characters related to the Green Lantern series were less affected by this reset than other characters. It appears as if most of Guy’s solo history was preserved, specifically his position and history within the Green Lantern Corps.

Guy Gardner’s major appearances in this era start out in the Green Lantern Corps series, in which he had a starring role alongside John Stewart (Reading Order). After the Rise of the Third Army (Reading Order) and Wrath of the First Lantern (Reading Order) crossover events, Guy transitions from the lead role in the Green Lantern Corps series to the lead role in the Red Lanterns series. From there, he participates in the Lights Out (Reading Order) and Godhead (Reading Order) crossover events while also maintaining his own independent storyline with the Red Lanterns. After the Red Lanterns series ended, Guy went on to be a major figure in the Green Lantern: The Lost Army and the Green Lantern Corps: Edge of Oblivion miniseries, which help transition him from the New 52 to the Rebirth era.

In addition, Guy was a main member of the Justice League International (Reading Order). However, his appearances alongside this team did not have much of an impact on other comics and were rarely mentioned after the Justice League International series ended.

Notes
  1. Guy appears as a supporting member of the Justice League International (Reading Order) in each one of their appearances. However, these issues do little to advance Guy as an individual. In addition, the events of this series are only rarely mentioned after the Justice League International series was cancelled. Because of this, Guy's appearances alongside this team are not essential to this reading order.
  2. Guy has a pretty small role in these issues. However, they help establish an additional connection between him and the Red Lanterns, which is mentioned later on.
  3. These issues only barely relate to the storyline taking place in the Godhead (Reading Order) event. In addition, Guy does not have a large role in these issues. They can easily be skipped without repercussion.
  4. Guy has a very small role in this issue. However, it serves as the conclusion to the Godhead event, which Guy had a larger role in. So, readers interested in seeing how the Godhead event played out should make sure to read this optional issue.
  5. This issue takes place in an alternate future and, thus, does not really have an impact on this version of Guy Gardner. However, it provides a creative and interesting take on an alternate end to his association with the Red Lanterns and, thus, may be of interest to fans of his time with that team.

Rebirth

The transition from the New 52 to the Rebirth era had a very minimal impact on Guy Gardner. His adventures in this era pick up immediately following the aftermath of the Green Lantern Corps: Edge of Oblivion miniseries.

Guy's major Rebirth appearances mostly play out through the Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps series. His contributions to that series range from large to small but his presence in it continues throughout its run. Besides this, he also makes a few appearances alongside Simon Baz (Reading Order) and Jessica Cruz in the Green Lanterns series.
