Green Lantern (Simon Baz) Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring Green Lantern (Simon Baz) throughout DC Comics. It may not encompass every one of his appearances but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

Simon Baz was introduced in the first half of the New 52 era and does not have appearances prior to this era.

Simon was introduced through the Green Lantern series, where he immediately took on a prominent role. His role in that comic took him through the Rise of the Third Army (Reading Order) and Wrath of the First Lantern (Reading Order) events. From this point onward, he had smaller roles in a number of other comics. However, most of these comics focused more on other characters and only had Simon as a supporting character.

Simon would not have a starring role again until the Rebirth era, where his adventures continue.

Green Lantern issues are from the Vol. 5 series.
Green Lantern Corps issues are from the Vol. 3 series.

Notes
  1. These issues are mostly about other characters but help give a larger picture of what Simon was doing during the Rise of the Third Army (Reading Order) and Wrath of the First Lantern (Reading Order) events.
  2. These issues all have Simon in a relatively small role. However, they help show the association he forged with the Justice League of America (Reading Order).
  3. These issues, focused on the Green Lantern/New Gods: Godhead (Reading Order) event, are mostly about Guy Gardner (Reading Order). However, they may be interesting for fans looking to see more of Simon.
  4. Simon has somewhat significant role in these comics. However, events in the Rebirth era make it unclear whether Simon's role in these comics is still in continuity or not.

Rebirth

The Rebirth era continues the general progression of Simon Baz's story from the previous era. It heavily references his origin  and first few appearances from the Green Lantern Vol. 5 series, which are a critical piece of his character.

This era mostly sees Simon step up to a more significant role as a Green Lantern and as a member of the Justice League (Reading Order). His adventures as a Green Lantern mostly play out through his costarring role in the Green Lanterns series, where he shares the spotlight with Jessica Cruz (Reading Order). Meanwhile, his adventures as a member of the Justice League mostly play out through a moderately small role in the Justice League series.

Justice League issues are from the Vol. 3 series

Notes
  1. Simon Baz is a member of the Justice League (Reading Order) in this era. However, in most of the League's appearances, he only serves in a supporting role or plays a contributing part in a larger group effort. For these appearances, this reading order links ComicBookWire's "Justice League Reading Order" to prevent this reading order from becoming overly complicated. Larger or more significant appearances are marked separately and explained further in this "Notes" section. Note: Simon does not appear in Aquaman #11 or any of the Justice League vs. Suicide Squad (Reading Order) tie-in issues.
  2. This issue details Simon's first mission alongside the Justice League and establishes his membership on that team.
  3. This issue focuses on Simon more significantly than other issues from this series.
  4. A story from this issue shows Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz (Reading Order) during the holiday season. It adds to their friendship but is not essential to their journey. In addition, only "The Epiphany" story from this issue is relevant to this reading order.
