Superboy/Kon-El (New 52 Version) Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring Superboy (New 52 Version) throughout DC Comics. It does not encompass every one of his appearances, but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

At the very beginning of the New 52 era, a new version of Superboy was introduced. Although this character shares a number of similarities with the Connor Kent version of Superboy, radical alterations to his origin story ensure that this is a separate character.

This version of Superboy starred in his own solo series, made a number of major and minor appearances in the Teen Titans (Reading Order) series, and participated in a few Superman-centric crossovers.

Notes
  1. Superboy is somewhat of a supporting character in these issues of Teen Titans. In addition, his role here has little effect on his solo journey.
  2. These issues detail Superboy's time with the Ravagers team. In these issues, Superboy is a supporting character with only a few moments in the spotlight. However, these issues explain how Superboy went from conclusion of Superboy #13 to the beginning of the H'el on Earth (Reading Order) event.
  3. Superboy is involved with every chapter in the H'el on Earth (Reading Order) event, except for Superman #13 and Supergirl #16.
  4. Superboy is somewhat of a supporting character in these issues of Teen Titans. In addition, his role here has little effect on his solo journey.
  5. Superboy and the Teen Titans only make a small appearance here. However, their actions here provide the basis for Teen Titans: The Trial of Kid Flash (Review). These actions are summarized at the beginning of Teen Titans: The Trial of Kid Flash (Review), making this storyline somewhat nonessential.
  6. This issue only has a minor cameo from Superboy. However, his appearance here somewhat explains how he survived the end of the Krypton Returns (Review) event.
  7. Superboy's appearances in these issues are very minor and have almost no impact on his solo adventures.

Rebirth

This version of Superboy is almost never mentioned in the Rebirth era of DC Comics. It seems likely that the continuity-altering events of Superman: Reborn (Reading Order) have wiped this version of Superboy from existence, along with many aspects of the New 52 Superman.
