Beast Boy (Garfield Logan) Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give a timeline of major storylines featuring Beast Boy throughout DC Comics. It does not encompass every one of his appearances, but is a timeline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

See our “Beast Boy Timeline” for summaries of each story arc in this reading order.

New 52

With the beginning of the New 52, the DC Universe was reset and all of Beast Boy’s past appearances were wiped clean.

Beast Boy was reintroduced in The Culling (Reading Order), a crossover event taking place through the Teen Titans, Superboy, and Legion Lost comic series. He then went on to star in The Ravagers and, later, the Teen Titans.

About halfway through Beast Boy’s New 52 journey, his history is reset again. The New 52 adventures prior to this point in time are essentially wiped from history and are never significantly mentioned again. This point is marked on this Reading Order. From here, his adventures proceed in the Teen Titans series. This series helps directly set up Beast Boy’s role in the next era.

See our “Beast Boy Timeline” for summaries of each story arc in this reading order.

Notes
  1. Though Beast Boy is introduced in this storyline, he does not play a major part in it. The events here are also summarized at the beginning of The Ravagers Vol. 1: The Kids From N.O.W.H.E.R.E. (Review).
  2. Beast Boy is not actually in this issue. However, this issue is pretty critical in giving context for the next issue.

Rebirth

The transition from the New 52 era to the Rebirth era introduces some minor continuity changes for Beast Boy. Mostly, it confirms that the first half of Beast Boy's New 52 journey, comprising his appearances in The Culling (Reading Order) and with the Ravagers, has been completely wiped from his history. It also returns some elements of his pre-New 52 history, which may have been due the Superman: Reborn (Reading Order) event's melding of the New 52 reality with the pre-New 52 reality.

In this era, Beast Boy's adventures primarily play out in the Teen Titans series. He stars as one of the main members of the Teen Titans (Reading Order) and, thus, participates in the Lazarus Contract (Reading Order), Dark Nights: Metal (Reading Order), and Super Sons of Tomorrow (Reading Order) crossovers with them. Besides this, Beast Boy also makes minor appearances in other comics, some of which confirm elements of his later New 52 history are still intact.

Notes
  1. Beast Boy's appearances here highlight his friendship with Tanya Spears (Reading Order). In doing so, these appearances also reiterate that Beast Boy's New 52 association with the Teen Titans, depicted in the Teen Titans Vol. 5 series, is still in continuity.
  2. Beast Boy and a few other members of the Teen Titans (Reading Order) have small appearances in these issues. However, these issues are mostly about the Super Sons (Reading Order).
  3. Only the "No Justice: Prelude" story from this issue is relevant to this reading order. This story simply serves as a prelude to the main No Justice (Reading Order) event.
